Yoga is more than just a workout. It is a life awakening practice and will help you in all things.

Yogi Tones Podcast with Jackie Gadd – Teaching the Senior Population

Jackie Gadd ([email protected]) found yoga in 2004 as path to alleviate physical and emotional health complications. After volunteering to teach yoga to preteens, she went on to earn four small certificates in children’s yoga. In 2011, at age 43 and a new mom, she committed to yoga as a career, and earned her E-RYT-200 and RPTY (perinatal). Since, Jackie has added certifications like Yoga for Eating Disorders, Teaching Adaptive Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis, Accessible Yoga, Silver Sneakers, and trainings in mindfulness, restorative practices, and yoga anatomy. For her, every class is adaptive, and she insists that the practice should fit the practitioner, not the reverse.

Meet Yoga Teacher and Savasana Representer Marisa Wolfe

What type of yoga do you teach?

Thai Yoga Massage | Breath-based Yoga (Kripalu, Viniyoga)

Which studio/s?

Here, there, and everywhere.

Where is your favorite place to practice yoga?

outside!!!

What do you like the most about practicing there?

The connection with the world around me. It’s so easy for me to go inside myself and practicing in nature keeps me a little more connected to the world around me. I always learn more from the world around me than I expect.

How do you practice yoga off the mat?

Every minute, every day.

The world ends tomorrow. What would you indulge in tonight?

The best meal of my life with all my favorite beings.

What was your first experience as a yoga teacher?

Freaking out about a practice teach in YTT, then realizing that what I offered was a different experience than anyone would have with any other teacher and it was all good.

What is your favorite food?

Is it cliche to say chocolate?

Imagine you’re on the cover of Yoga Journal. What pose would you strike?

Savasana. It’s not the most photogenic but it’s the most important and so under-represented.

What inspires you to teach yoga?

Seeing the discoveries students make as they get to know themselves better. Helping people move out of pain and suffering into ease and joy. Experiencing these same things within myself is also what inspires my personal practice.

If you could teach yoga anywhere in the world, where would it be?

All places are good places 🙂

What has been your most embarrassing yoga moment as a teacher or practitioner?

Not sure that any one thing stands out. Standing in front of a class in leggings has helped me to roll with whatever comes… and alot of stuff comes.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about practicing yoga?

Don’t judge yoga until you have tried a few different teachers/styles. There is a yoga for everyone and it is worth the search.

What music are you jamming to right now?

Anything Puerto Rican!

What has been the most rewarding thing about being a teaching yoga?

I get to meet the coolest people and see them in their best moments.

At the shala

I like the peace it gives me. A time to shut my mind off.

I meditate and pray. I try to practice the yamas and niyamas. Pranayama is a part of my morning ritual at work.

The world ends tomorrow. What would you indulge in tonight?

Being surrounded by my family.

What was your first experience with yoga?

I started yoga with p90x in my friends living room.

What is your favorite food?

Guatemalan tamales. Yummmm

Padmasana at the edge of an infinity pool.

If you could practice yoga anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Mysore India.

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about practicing yoga?

I would let them know it is ok to try new things and not like it. But you never know where love can sprout if you don’t try.

What music are you jamming to right now?

Lots of country.

Vinyasa, Vinyasa Flow, Vinyasa Advance, Soft Vinyasa

Which studio?

Taur Yoga

Where is your favorite place to practice yoga?

Taur Yoga

What do you like the most about practicing there?

The people, the vibe and the other teachers.

How do you practice yoga off the mat?

I try to be the best version of myself every time, take my time to breathe in difficult situations, I don’t jump to conclusions, nor assume stuff, I smile a lot and have a ready ear to listen to whomever needs to be listen without judging… but my most hard time is to be all this while driving and keep loving everybody even thou I don’t agree with their driving manners XD

The world ends tomorrow. What would you indulge in tonight?

Pizza, big-cocacola and netflix.

What was your first experience as a yoga teacher?

I had no idea of the world that I was entering to, how healing and fulfilling is to practice and share practice with others.

What is your favorite food?

TAQUITOS!

Imagine you’re on the cover of Yoga Journal. What pose would you strike?

Hanumanasana or Standing split.

What inspires you to teach yoga?

To be there for others, as my teachers were there for me when I most needed someone, and a little but this fool/utopian idea we all yogis have, that if we all do Yoga all over the world, we can make this a place of peace and understanding.

If you could teach yoga anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Any where is awesome!

What has been your most embarrassing yoga moment as a teacher or practitioner?

Guiding savasana, after I stopped talking to let the meditation sink in… the iPod started playing “call me maybe” … it was on shuffle XD

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about practicing yoga?

“Well, the worst thing it could happen… is that you fall in love with Yoga”

What music are you jamming to right now?

No music, only the “calm neighborhood” acoustics XD

What has been the most rewarding thing about being a teaching yoga?

As an only child, a not so popular kid and sort of the introverted teenager… I now find myself blessed with a lot of yogi sisters and all the people that go to the Shala and practice yoga, share their lives and give and receive a hug with enthusiasm… literally “Your vibe attracts your tribe”

Where else can we find you?

At the Gym 11:11 Fitness
At Inshala Yoga Studio
