Meet Yogi and Japanese food lover Sonia Tabor

What type of yoga do you like to practice?

Where is your favorite place to practice yoga?

Kula yoga in Chula Vista

What do you like the most about practicing there?

The sense of community. Great space with love, art, and awesome instructors. If feels like home. It’s a place where I feel like family!!! It always feels so welcoming and a great space to practice. Kula means community and it surely has that vibe.

How do you practice yoga off the mat?

I think that off the mat is where the real practice starts. I practice with my kiddos, my husband, my friends, and family. Being mindful of what I eat and what I speak. Being flexible and understanding and allowing myself to make mistakes. Practicing flexibility of the mind, patience, and understanding. Although I am not perfect, I try to remind myself of these things. And ultimately I practice by enjoying the most beautiful luxuries the universe offers, like breath-the ocean-hugs and kisses-music-art-and movement.

The world ends tomorrow. What would you indulge in tonight?

hugs and kisses and laughter with my family and friends, especially my husband and two kiddos (Londen and Austin). also in a cup of delicious coffee and vegan pastries

What was your first experience with yoga?

when I was a kid I thought Yoga was a religion!!! I didn’t understand it. Then as an adult, when I was pregnant with my son Londen I read about it and found out it would be very beneficial for me. I went to the store, bought a yoga DVD and my journey began with a home practice. I felt amazing and needed more so I explored a few studios and fell in love with my practice and yoga asana so much that I took a 200 hour teacher training. I wanted to share my amazing life changing experience that practicing on the mat offers.

What is your favorite food?

I love Japanese, and Mexican! especially vegan hibiscus or cauliflower mole tacos

Imagine you’re on the cover of Yoga Journal. What pose would you strike?

probably a warrior pose… maybe Warrior 1

If you could practice yoga anywhere in the world, where would it be?

somewhere at a beach like Nosara Costa Rica- Bali is next! woo hoo!!!!

What would you say to someone who is on the fence about practicing yoga?

Yoga is for everyone. It’s a practice where we learn to bend so we don’t break. its great for the body and the mind and it can be life changing. As I can only speak from my personal experience as a practicing yogi and yoga instructor the changes I have seen and been a part of have been amazing. It enhances flexibility, strength, and reduces anxiety. My favorite side effect is the way the body looks and feels as a consequence of that Vinyasa flow.

What music are you jamming to right now?

The Cure- Catch! i love my 80’s new wave.

Where else can we find you?

you can find my on IG as soniasana_yoga and soniatabor_mua
and through my vintage shop upright_citizen_studio

Anything else you would like to add?

As long as we’re breathing we are doing yoga. I try to remind myself to take conscious breaths. When we are on the mat we get in to twists, binds, and we get to see the world upside down- changing our perspective. The beauty of it is that we can get out of the twists and binds pretty quick- its just a matter of a decision and live through it!! this is a great way to go in to things remembering that this too shall pass.
